When I first quick my real job and went into business for myself I opened an office in our spare bedroom.   The family loved it at first because they could walk in and talk to me at any time of the day with the questions that they considered to be pertinent.  I enjoyed it but the interruptions became all to frequent and I was not getting my work done.   I finally opted for a garden office.  It was close enough to the house so I could walk to work in the morning yet far enough away that my family could feel the separation and let me work.
