The requirements for skills improvement today is widespread across many careers.  If a person is going to remain viable in the job market, he or she is going to have to continue training and receiving certification in a lot of areas.  For every step that becomes available it is advisable for the person who expects to keep working to receive additional training.  The surgical technologist certification gives the person in the field the opportunity to move him or herself up to a higher level of expertise that makes them more marketable.  That is not to say that they are not worthy of recognition, but the training is necessary.
