We probably were not much different than your typical tourist visiting South Africa.  Except we wanted to drive around the country and see Africa up close and personal from our avis car rental.   Most of our time was going to be spent in or around the game reservations in South Africa and neighboring Namiba.  We had invested heavily in camera equipment and camera classes.  We wanted to drive from place to place so we could take the greatest advantage of any photo opportunities as they came up.  And we were not disappointed.  I am sure we saw things that the flying tourists never get a chance to get close to.
